Tulare County Jail

Leisure Time

Interview with Jen

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Jen: TV, 1-3 times a week you get to maybe go outside. Other then that there is no way to pass the time but bullshit with the other inmates.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce?
Jen: The TV was on a wall, and you could access the channel changer, but sometimes there were complaints about the channel selection; Spanish television, or the news channels that you couldn't recieve

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Jen: Actually I lost about 20 lbs. I had time to exercise in my cell, and I refused to eat most of their food. Not to mention that the food was bad, and tasteless.

JM: How often did you get to go outside?
Jen: I only remember in the month I stayed we went out 2 times. The year before when I stayed in jail waiting to get out on O.R. We never went outside.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Jen: In General population the church was offered in the open and you could join in if you wanted to. I don't remember the church ever even being offered in the Minimal security block.
